Status Quo Here

December 28, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Not much going on around here.  I’ve been surprisingly busy at work this week with some issues.  The kids are still busy playing with all their Christmas toys.  Scott has been running errands and just generally hanging out at home.

Last night we had my family over for dinner at the last minute.  I had more roast than we could eat and they were hungry so they came.  We watched part of Ocean’s Thirteen but it’s a hard movie to watch with the girls running around so they didn’t finish it.

Today I’m going to get my hair cut at lunch to use up a gift card I bought.  As for the weekend..Scott works all weekend, the girls are going to MIL’s tonight (I think) and tomorrow night we have our final Christmas dinner at his grandmother’s.  All presents have been given away so we’re just going to stuff our faces with yummy chicken and dumplings.

Elliptical Update

December 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Well, after all I’ve talked about having an elliptical here at the house, it worked all of 3 days and still has yet to be fixed.  The manufacturer said the parts would be here in 2 days and guess what?  It’s been 3 weeks now.  I called last night and they said it was on back order until tomorrow and then would take 3 days to send to us.  Well, guess what I got in the mail today?  Yep, the part.  Now I have a call back into the manufacturer to get a technician out here to install it.  Maybe by the new year I’ll be exercising with the rest of America.

Emma funny

December 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Emma, on walking in on our living room yesterday with Christmas presents scattered everywhere: Man, it sure is a mess in here!

Scott: Yeah, you can say that again.

Emma: Man, it sure is a mess in here!

Thankful Thursday

  • Wow, how do you even begin to express enough thankfulness for what we just received in the past week?  My Christmas has been marked with how comfy my new chair is and yet some people did not even have a Christmas to speak of.  The girls got present upon present to the point where we can barely hold it all.  Some things haven’t even been opened still.  It literally has taken days to get through it all.  We are blessed beyond measure.
  • 2007 itself is drawing to a close and I’m of course thankful for this year.  It’s been a good year with it’s fair share of drama with S leaving, Scott’s surgery and me having to move companies but also some great things including my raise when I moved companies, Scott’s trip to Turkey, youth camp, getting the Land Rover, the girls getting potty trained (yes, that makes the big list), the big magazine shoot and cover and of course the day to day goodness we have.  This year has been a good year.  Nothing catastrophic to speak of and I’m thankful for that.

What is with our school principals?

December 26, 2007 by Amy 2 Comments

I have to rant for a minute.  Two incidents recently have got me questioning what goes on in our schools lately.

The first was with our pastor.  He goes to eat lunch with his middle school aged child every week.  One of her friends who had visited their house multiple times began swearing at his daughter repeatedly at school.  On one of his visits, he sat down with the girl and asked her not to swear anymore and that he would have a conversation with her father.  Well, the girl got mad and went and told the principal.  A few days later then principal called our pastor and his wife into his office and told him he could not ask anyone to quit swearing and he may be asked to quit eating lunch with his daughter.  Like, what the…why is it a pastor can not tell a middle schooler not to swear?  It should have been the girl’s parents sat down in that office and given a talkin to for swearing AND disrespecting an elder and pastor to boot.

Tonight I just found out that one of Scott’s best childhood friends who is a police officer that works as a school resource officer was asked to leave the school.  He walked in on a high school kid writing on the bathroom wall and tried to convince him to leave.  The kid started yelling, telling him to F off and then swung at Scott’s friend who then took him to the ground and handcuffed him.  The kid’s friends then come in and start to try to fight Scott’s friend and then he gets his Tazor out threatening to taze them.  The principal walks in and tries to blame it all on him and asks for him to be reassigned.  OK, exactly what is he supposed to do with a bunch of high school kids trying to beat him up and why is it that they have a resource officer if they don’t want him to handle situations in the way he was trained?

These were at different schools but it sure seems like parents and authority figures have a lot less pull with principals than the students do these days.  Am I overreacting? Are these isolated incidents?  I don’t have kids in school so I don’t know what it’s like since about 10 years ago.

T minus one week

December 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

In one week I’ll be starting the Read the Bible in 90 Days initiative.  I got my participant’s guide in in the mail yesterday.  There is still room to join if you are interested.  I looked at the schedule and it seems you average about 10-15 chapters.  Not bad at all to me.

I’m looking forward to finally saying I’ve read the entire thing straight through but let me tell you, I really feel like Satan is trying to talk me out of it.  Not to get all spiritual-warfare-y on you but I feel like he’s throwing up every reason why I shouldn’t…things I’ve done that I shouldn’t, reasons I’m too busy to do it, thinking I won’t finish if I start.  So I’m taking that as a sign that this will be good for me and I’m pressing on.

“Good morning, good morning the little bird said”

December 26, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Bonus points to anyone who can recite that entire song!

I’m quite chipper this morning, happy to feel back to normal.  Last night Mom ended up keeping the girls at her house for about two hours to play and I came home and cleaned with a vengeance.  I made a little list and checked it off as I went.  I’m happy to say I got it all checked off and more.

Today will be a normal Wednesday..the kids will be going to MIL’s this afternoon (I think anyway) and then we have youth group tonight.  Feels like forever since I’ve been to church even though it’s only been a week and a half.

The girls both just got up and are already engrossed in their Christmas toys which should be a nice distraction for them since they don’t have school.

So that’s it I suppose…off to work (read: switching keyboards).

Close of Christmas

December 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Christmas day is closing up shop soon.  Right now I’m sitting at my Mom’s waiting on Heather’s boyfriend and daughter to come to pass out the last two presents of the season.

The morning started about 8am.  Scott came in about 5am and slept until then and has been up all day except for a very short nap this afternoon.  Honestly, we didn’t get the girls too much.  Only 5 presents and a stocking each.  But they seemed completely ok with it.  Heather had brought all her presents over so they room was still full of presents to be opened.  Mom, Dad and Heather came over around 9 or 9:30 and opened up our presents and Heather’s.  I didn’t realize they had left all of their presents at home.  They seemed really happy with their presents.   We got Heather the 1 vs. 100 DVD so she spent some time playing that.  Heather got me one of those laptop tables and also some Bath & Body Works soap.

Around 11 we headed over to his parents.  Presents abounded there.  The girls got all kinds of stuff…Baby Alive, princess toys, clothes, train set and on and on.  I got my big external hard drive.  Around 3 we headed back to Mom’s to open presents here and eat dinner.  I got a new leather office chair that I’m so excited to sit in all day tomorrow.  That gives me a little reason to want to work tomorrow.

I’m a little stressed on everything that needs done at the house though.  Since we were out of town I have cleaning and laundry to do and then we have so much stuff to put up, there are new toys and clothes everywhere.  I feel like I need one day off all to myself at the house.  Scott and I took a short nap here at Mom’s this afternoon so I’m going to stay up tonight and try to get some things done just so I can rest easy about all of it.   I think that Bennett OCD blood is rubbing off.

I’ve been in the Christmas mood since some time in November but honestly, I think I’m glad it’s just about over.  No more presents to buy, I’m tired of Christmas music, no more family gatherings to run to.  I’m ready to hibernate for the winter!
