In the middle of a busy week

December 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Well this is my busiest week of the holidays.  I have something to do every night this week.

Last night we went to S’s house for a "cultural night".  I guy from Turkey was in and we had tea and Turkish desserts.  If you EVER get the chance to have Turkish Baklava instead of Greek, my friend, jump all over that.  That stuff is GOOD.  Twenty minutes into our visit Lexi had her first potty training accident in public and I didn’t have any clothes for her so I had to go home.  It was already 7:30 and seeing the late night Lexi had the night before, she really needed to get to bed so it turned out for the best.  I actually heard it sort of turned into a high pressured carpet sales gig so I’m actually thankful Lexi had an accident.

Still no dress for tomorrow night so instead of scrambling for a sitter for Scott’s work party and Scott possibly not showing up or leaving since he’s on duty, I’m deciding to skip it and go shopping with the girls and Heather.

As for the rest of the week…tomorrow night is the cotillion, Thursday we’re having D&D and J&W over, Friday is mom’s housewarming thing and Saturday is the Daughtry concert.

The Hills Finale and Aftershow

December 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So the live finale was long but good.  We got to see all the episodes leading up to the finale.  Great for someone that had missed a few weeks.  Interspersed were the arrival of the characters.  Some thoughts about that…Elodie was much more petite than I had thought.  Whitney and Audrina were stunning as usual.  Lauren looked great as usual.  Heidi looked pretty but was flaunting the new boob job WAY TOO MUCH.  Yikes. That side view was just awkward.

As for the actual finale.  Lauren and Brody seemed closer to actually spilling their guts about their feelings but why oh why are they both being so stubborn.  I was happy but unsatisfied with the good bye kiss.  It did leave us with some hope though.  Speaking of Lauren leaving, I was so excited that she was able to go to Paris.  That’s going to be lots of fun for them.  I mean I guess it is. Not like I’ve ever been to Paris or anything but the words cotillion and Paris in the same sentence has to be something good.  One more thing to note is I got mixed vibes about Lauren and Brody in the aftershow. She answered the hosts question about whether she would be the one to change Brody and she says she learned you can’t change a person. So is she talking Jason here or has she given up on Brody?   Their body language on the couches though was definitely comfortable and in no way awkward so either they’re still dating or they’ve decided to be friends with no hard feelings.  I’m still hoping for the still dating thing.

As for Heidi and Spencer…obviously I’m glad they are splitting.  And did anyone notice she did not have an engagement ring on last night?  Between that and Spencer’s no-show I’m guessing it’s done for good.  I did feel a little bad for Spencer.  He obviously loves Heidi but the guy treats her like crap.  And I think Heidi loves him too but like I’ve said in the past, I think she started to see him for who he really is and the thought of marrying him really scared her.

I loved Heidi’s comment about being engaged to a 5 year old.  Yes, she’s definitely seeing the light.  And then she completely disses him when she sends out her assistant to tell him she’s not at the office while she’s really sitting at her desk.  Ouch.  I think Heidi’s serious.

So the big announcement on the after show was NOT that Lauren was engaged or somebody got married but that the season finale was not really the season finale and we get to see Whitney and Lauren’s trip to Paris and even past that according to Lauren.  So yay!

New One Tree Hill Blog

December 11, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I tend to blog quite a bit about tv shows here.  Weekly there can be up to 3 or 4 shows I talk about.  For some odd reason this morning I woke up and decided I was really excited about the One Tree Hill season coming up in January and saw on opportunity for my sister and I to team up and start a blog together.

So in a very random, unplanned and turns out expensive jump, I’ve started another blog.  Things are just getting started but I have a few posts up already and plan lots more to get ready for the new season.  Every year it seems questionable whether OTH is going to survive another season but it always hangs in there.  This could be it though if it’s not a hit and this could be a short-lived side blog but hopefully it will be fun and not painful while it lasts.

I’m excited for the new season.  They’ve jumped four years over college and are now in the real world outside of school.  That kind of jump can be tough on a series but all the same actors are back and I think the writers will do us right.

If you’ve never watched the show, right now would be a great time to get caught up from previous seasons before the new ones starts January 8.

So anyway, come see me on One Tree Hill Blog!

Hard time finding a dress

December 10, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I went to SEVEN stores plus window shopped many more today WITH Lexi to find a dress for Wednesday night.  I even called D to see what she had on hand that I might borrow.  Unfortunately it sounded like her stuff was still in storage.

I’ve determined I’m going to have to go to the “big city” of Charlotte to a few favorite stores to get something.  And I have one day to do that.  I was supposed to go to Scott’s shift party with some other wives since the guys are working tomorrow night but I think I’m going to skip it and go shopping.

So here’s my dilemma.  None of the styles this year look good on me.  It’s either a cute tunic short dress/long shirt with leggings type thing like this one (don’t really like the sleeves on this one but it’s the first picture I found that had the type of thing I’m talking about) :

That type of dress just hangs on me and just makes me look anorexic or something.  The other style is the 50s style with a skirt that goes straight out and is poofy sort of like this one I tried:

While cute, both looked HORRIBLE on me.  I’m hoping to find something tomorrow at Forever 21, Express or Ann Taylor I’d like to check at the mall that takes a little more effort to get to.

The other thing is while I probably could have gotten away with a few dresses I saw at Kohl’s, I’m technically a chaperone at this one and don’t want to go the too-sexy route.

We’re now less than 48 hours though and if nothing else, I may have to resort to my red satin shirt from last year and good ‘ol black skirt.

Late night with children and The Hills

December 10, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

Last night while we were at church Mom took the girls to see her church’s Christmas show.  Apparently the girls fell asleep within minutes for the next hour or two.  When they came home, they were ready. to go.  Even though their normal bedtime has been 8 lately, I let them stay up and play until 11.  11:15…11:30…11:45.  I still hear them playing in their room and go to check on them. They have turned the lamp on and are straight up playing in bed.  They get tucked in again…midnight then passes and I give them a speech about it being after twelve.  I guess Emma understood how late it was as she fell asleep soon after that.  Lexi…got in and out of bed until 12:40 when I finally laid down with her long enough for her to go to sleep with much back rubbing and singing.  And guess who was up at 7:30?  Oh yes, Lexi was.  Emma on the other hand we had to basically drag out of bed.

I would suggest we all take a nap later today but then I’d be in the same cycle as last night.  Hopefully we can go to our little function tonight at 7 and then come home and get them down early!

The only good thing about the whole thing last night is I got to watch a rerun of The Hills: Lauren Looks Back which was great.  If you ever need caught up on The Hills, need to fill in some blanks or can’t quite get enough, that’s the show to watch.

It’s official…

December 9, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So it’s official as of today.  Our new youth pastor was unanimously voted in.  I think there are some reservations with some youth.  But some are extremely excited which is great.  Honestly, I’m not 100% sold but I’m trying to offer the benefit of the doubt and keep an open mind.  I realize he’s not going to be S and different can be good.  It’s just I think I had expectations that so far haven’t been met.  But, I’m so happy that there is now a leader and that us on the youth council can breathe a little bit.  Yes, it will be a few weeks before he’s on board full time but just knowing relief is coming feels great.

Today we went to visit C&D at the hospital and isn’t baby J so cute??  He came out at only 4lbs 15oz and he wasn’t even early.  All are doing well and it’s great to welcome another baby to the family.
