Goodnight, One Tree Hill

I couldn’t seem to get through the day without talking a bit about One Tree Hill.  The last episode is on tonight and while I’ve only watched just a few from this season, I can’t help but acknowledge the mark it made on my life.  Can a TV show make a mark on one’s life?  Should it?  I don’t know, but it did.

My sister finally got me to watch it just when Season 4 was on.  I was hooked.  That sad, introspective boy with the crush on the girl got to me and I was staying up night after night trying to catch up.  I remember one particular Friday night I stayed up until 4am watching episodes.

About this time in 2007, monetizing blogs were really taking off and I watched as one of my friends made several hundred dollars from a fan site.  I was already blogging about One Tree Hill on my personal blog and as much as I loved the show, I just knew I could do that too.  Well, I did.  Off went in just a few months.  I remember the first month I was shocked when I made .30 in a day.  Nine months later, the site had blown up and if the money had continued at its peak, I could have completely replaced my income.  But it wasn’t all about the money.  I truly loved the show.

My parents got into the show and before we knew it, we had to visit the nearby set in Wilmington, NC.  We went for my 30th birthday in July of 2008. We got to see Quinton’s funeral filmed, visit the set and really get to know this Tree Hill.

Oh, and how about running into “Nathan”, “Brooke” and “Millie” on our way to get ice cream?

In March of 2009, Heather and I went for a unofficial fan reunion where we saw a ton of filming and I finally got my picture with CMM and creator Mark Schwahn as well as many other cast members including Nick Lachey who was guest starring at that time.

(Yes, I know.  I look like I’m about to eat him.  I was trying to talk.)

I went back to extra in the show in 2009.  Although minute, I’m happy to say I was a part of the show.

I ended up selling the blog at the end of 2010 and my interest the show waned as characters left and the show really changed.  I’ve also (tried to) tempered my obsession over TV in the last year or so but I can’t deny how much I loved it.

I have friends that I would have never met…Carolyn, Denise, Kaitlin, Amanda and Jason just to name a few.  The show monetarily provided for my family and many others.  And of course, the characters gave me something to cheer for, laugh with, hope for, cry over, learn from and simply enjoy.

Lucas, Peyton, Brooke, Nathan, Haley, Mouth and Skills especially will always be special characters.  Thanks to all the cast and crew that brought them to life and all the people that supported OTHBlog and shared my crazy love of a TV show.

Goodnight, One Tree Hill.

Let’s Talk About Fall TV So Far

As mentioned before one of the things I’m missing about Twitter and Facebook is interaction about TV.  I started my break before most shows premiered and I have no clue how people are reacting to this season.  I feel a little lost.  But I’ll take a few minutes to gab about what I think.

Gossip Girl

I feel like this season has been solid GG so far.  Blair’s attention-getting actions were very odd.  It was also odd to see JoAnna Garcia with Nate after watching her in a full season of Privileged.  Maybe it’s just lingering affects from that but I’m not 100% sold on that character.  I do like Carter and hope he sticks around.  I’m loving Blair and Chuck together.  I do like this whole college thing.  I feel like it fits them better at this point yet it still feels like GG.

Greek started really slow for me the first two episodes.  I had to struggle through to even watch the second episode at all.  The last two have been back up to par and let me say that Cappie is by far the star of that show.  Without him, the episodes lag!  Here a few quotes I grabbed from this week:

A sororiety girl.  I can’t remember her name and I’m too lazy to look it up.  The senator’s daughter: See they were blown off for another mixer so they stayed in for mud masks and a TV series about old people having old people sex.
Casey: They’re watching Private Practice?

Evan and Cappie looking at flyers for Evan a job.
Cappie: Oh here’s one.  Sperm donor.  Someone with your pedigree could earn three times what I have… much as I would.

Ashley: Maybe they were hot back in the 80s.
Casey: No that is ugly in any decade.

One Tree Hill

This is a huge year for OTH. Another 14 mo jump, 2 lost major character and 4 additions and it was a recipe for disaster.  But after the third episode this week, I feel really good about it.  I’m really loving Clay and even Alex.  They need to step it up with Quinn or she will be the biggest bore I’ve seen on there yet.  Nathan and Haley have been fantastic this season, especially the last episode.  As for Brooke, I much rather have Brooke with an attitude than Brooke in love.  But I do still like her with Julian and I’m glad to hear that storyline will be shaken a bit.  Drama!

Melrose Place has called this as a cancellation.  I won’t be surprised.  I skipped through a lot of last night’s episode.  It’s rough.  Really rough.  I don’t care much about the characters, the acting especially on Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s part is horrid and the who-murdered-Sydney story-line is already old.  There are a few good parts though.  I think Jonah and Riley are solid, especially Riley.  She’s one of the only real characters with solid acting.  And I hate to say this, but  I’m actually enjoying Lauren’s hooker line.  It’s not right but I think the acting is superb and I think she’s showing genuine conflict about it and unfortunately there are women who find themselves in just that plight.  However, with Ella Simms as the star of this show, it’s empty, vain and annoying and it will be the downfall of this show.  It’s hard to support a show where you don’t even like the main character.  Heather Locklear finally signed on and I’m interested to see if she saves the show.  If you’re a fan, make sure to check out Melrose Place Blog (sorry for the review, Ruthie, but I’ll still plug the site for you!)

Lie To Me

I didn’t mean to watch it this season but I needed to pass some time Monday night.  It was a solid episode for the show.  If you enjoyed the first season, definitely check it out.

Grey’s Anatomy

I posted about this show briefly last week but wow, Grey’s was back with full force.  It will be interesting to see where they take it from here.  I’m wondering how you improve on what we just saw.  I’m thoroughly enjoying Alex and Izzie and Derek and Meredith married.

The Office

As always The Office manages to make me laugh with quotes like this:

“I say my greatest talent is being the best man, woman or child to have ever run this branch ever.”

“I’d have to talk to my mother and my guy at H&R Block.”

I’m excited for Jim and Pam and can’t wait for this week.

I’ve dropped Glee.  Eh.

Vampire Diaries

I am totally and completely smitten with Vampire Diaries.  And it is totally and completely due to Ian Somerhalder as Damon.  It was a little weak out of the gate but the last episode was great and I literally have been counting down to Thursday this week.  I could do without all the vampirism and biting (I know, then what’s the point, eh?) but I love the characters and the stories have been decent. If they do this right, it could be huge.  Make sure to check out Vampire Diaries Online.

Dollhouse also shows this as a possible cancellation and I wouldn’t be surprised since we almost didn’t get this season.  But it’s a shame.  It’s a good show and I really enjoyed the premiere last week.

And in closing…have I mentioned I’m excited for the Friday Night Lights premiere in 4 weeks??  All you people have PLENTY of time to catch up on 1-3.  Do eeeet!

A few TV notes

Another Monday night filled with TV last night except I skipped most of Dancing with the Stars. I’m just not attached to any of the dancers. However, for my others..

  • One Tree Hill was a fantastic episode. Next week is the season finale and it should be great. Everyone is buzzing about the “I Hate You” from Lucas. It was scathing, I tell you.
  • The Bachelor…I’m not surprised at all at the outcome. I even told Dad Sunday night he would pick her. He’s been smitten with her for awhile. But honestly I’m not sure if it will last. He seems taken with the fact she’s a Hollywood actress and she’s seems taken with the fact that someone just loves her back. Maybe it will be enough but I doubt it.
  • House – That was one weird episode. But House saying “I used to drive home after I drank but some mothers got Ma-duh-duh” had both Scott and laughing out loud. Shocking to see Amber was in the bus. The last 5 minutes provided some great drama as it unfolded.
  • The Hills – O.M.G. I CAN NOT believe Heidi went with Spencer. I mean, come on, woman. Where are your senses? I kept wondering how they got back together in the present and if this is it, that is awful! He came to Vegas and MORTIFIED her and probably cost her her job or at least any promotion she wanted and then she LEFT HER BOSS HANGING. No word or anything. That was just bad. Just bad. Spencer is the biggest jerk evah.

Random TV notes from last night

Just a few on DWTS, The Hills, One Tree Hill and the Bachelor…

  • What is with Shannon and Derek on DWTS…dating???  Last time we saw something like that beach scene was with Mario and we know how that turned out.
  • Lauren needs to get over this whole Heidi thing.  I mean it’s one thing to be mad at someone but it’s another to hold a grudge against her for years and act like a 15 year old.  It’s really getting annoying.
  • Spencer is still a jerk.
  • Justin Bobby is on the right track. Wow, like a different person. His showering comment was really funny.
  • OTH, well, you can read about it over here.  It was a so-so episode.
  • The fake parents thing was very awkward to watch but really funny.  She really took a risk doing that.  I thought he may think she was wacko but he seemed to like it as Amanda stayed another week.  I’m thinking the frontrunner is Shayne but I’m really surprised the promos show him proposing to someone.  I don’t see him that close to any of them.

New One Tree Hill Blog

I tend to blog quite a bit about tv shows here.  Weekly there can be up to 3 or 4 shows I talk about.  For some odd reason this morning I woke up and decided I was really excited about the One Tree Hill season coming up in January and saw on opportunity for my sister and I to team up and start a blog together.

So in a very random, unplanned and turns out expensive jump, I’ve started another blog.  Things are just getting started but I have a few posts up already and plan lots more to get ready for the new season.  Every year it seems questionable whether OTH is going to survive another season but it always hangs in there.  This could be it though if it’s not a hit and this could be a short-lived side blog but hopefully it will be fun and not painful while it lasts.

I’m excited for the new season.  They’ve jumped four years over college and are now in the real world outside of school.  That kind of jump can be tough on a series but all the same actors are back and I think the writers will do us right.

If you’ve never watched the show, right now would be a great time to get caught up from previous seasons before the new ones starts January 8.

So anyway, come see me on One Tree Hill Blog!
