Renovation Progress 8-12

August 12, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

It’s been a few days since the last update.  No worries. We have been hard at work.

Scott got the trim work down in both bathrooms.  You can see the caulk was drying when I took this in the hall bath.  He hasn’t started the caulking in the master bath yet.

There are no renovations in this picture except for the repainted walls. I just felt like you should see the other angle in the hall bathroom.  It’s much more interesting.

DSCN0485

We hadn’t planned on doing it but Scott really wanted to replace the base cabinet and sink.  I really didn’t want to spend the money.  So we compromised and I painted it.  Well, I’m in the middle of painting.  Actually, as we speak I should be painting a second coat instead of typing this.  I’m kind of getting tired of the painting.

DSCN0483

Here is a sneak peek.  I’m not 100% happy with the color.  It was paint we already had and I don’t remember what it was used for.  Mom and Heather saw a picture on my iPhone and liked it.  This picture probably makes it look worse than it is but it just seems kind of blah.  Like, it’s sort of milk chocolate and I want dark chocolate.

DSCN0521

As for the master bath, Scott put some hardware on the cabinet.  I wish the picture would have taken better but I really like it.  Now I just have to remember to USE them.

By the way, I’m using a little point and shoot camera because my Canon’s batter is STILL dead since the American Idol concert and I can’t find either of our chargers.  Go me!

DSCN0526

And guess what came in today???  My lighting!!  Scott didn’t have time to install it before work but here is a sneak peak.  Love them!

DSCN0525

What’s coming up…

  • I’m hoping that Scott installs my lights tomorrow.
  • If I’m really (really) lucky he’ll caulk our bathroom tomorrow.
  • I’ll finish the paint of the base cabinet tomorrow.
  • I’m hoping to go pick out some hardware for the hall bath tomorrow.
  • This weekend is the big kitchen counter top (did I mention sink and faucet?) renovation!

Renovation Progress

August 9, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

This weekend Scott got the tile grouted and the toilet in the hall bath.  We’re planning to paint the vanity now.

The kitchen counter top demolition began tonight. I can. not. wait.  Please ignore the dirt on the counter as well as the dirty dishes in the sink.  They are only there so the after pictures look better.

Also, I randomly repainted the bathroom, our bathroom vanity and the girls’ bedroom.

The Park

August 9, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

Emma remembers everything.  Sometimes it’s a good thing.  Sometimes it’s not.  The other day she mentioned in passing it’d be a great idea for us to go to the park and take their bikes and eat a picnic.  And we really should do that this Saturday.  I told her that’d be great but she’d be at MIL’s this weekend.  I thought that was the end of it.

Saturday for some unknown reason I got out of bed earlier than I normally do on a weekday and cleaned up the house.  Around 10:30 I got a call from Emma saying she was calling about our park visit and when could I come get her?  Oh and can S go too?  Um….ok.  Let me run a few errands and I’ll be over at lunchtime.

We decide to do the picnic part first.  Except Lexi got mad about something.  Usually Emma and S do things together and leave her out and she gets mad.  I can’t recall what happened but Lexi insisted on sitting by herself:

And this is Lexi pouting sitting by herself:

DSCN0387

I think it’s the cutest picture ever and I probably shouldn’t.

The girls decided they wanted to play before getting the bikes out so they headed straight for the sand.  The same place that used to be a pool when I was a little girl.  Except S and Emma got the toys first.  So this is Lexi pouting about that:

DSCN0398

OK, I won’t pick on her anymore.  She did have some fun:

DSCN0411

So the girls finally decided to ride their bikes.

DSCN0421

And I just happen to think that’s an adorable picture too.  And this one too.  The girls stopped to go potty and left their bikes parked in a line.

DSCN0424

Turns out the bathrooms were closed.  What better thing to do than drink water when you have no bathroom handy??

DSCN0435

It was really hot outside.  My girls stopped for a break.  I’m not sure what Lexi is doing here.  I do know she wasn’t pouting.

DSCN0440

Oh, look!  Someone came to visit us!  Daddy!  And yes, that does draw a little attention from other park-goers.

DSCN0413

I think it’s hot.  And well, it technically was our anniversary so I made him take a picture.  Right before this he said, “Embarrassing!”

DSCN0414

So we finished out the visit with Emma taking the camera.  I think I had either my it’s hot out here or Emma, what are you doing face on.

DSCN0452

And just like a sixteen year old she took pictures of herself.

DSCN0454

I don’t know Em, I think this time, your outstanding memory was a good thing.

Anniversary Dinner

August 7, 2009 by Amy 6 Comments

DSCN0334

Tonight Scott and I celebrated our 11th Anniversary that is actually tomorrow.  A local radio station had a Half Off Gift Card.  Which trust me, really isn’t half off because tax and gratuity doesn’t count.  Anyway, it was at Ruth’s Chris and it was so, so good.  After last year’s big Grove Park Inn weekend, it seemed like a simple celebration with just dinner.  No movie, no ring, no spa but it was still fun.  And you can definitely tell we are past the honeymoon phase by our conversation…

Me: I’m going to burp in your face.
Scott: I don’t care.

Me (in jest): You got 11 years but I ain’t promising another 11.

Me: I love you, babe.
Scott: I love you too.  But I’m not giving you another ring.

Me: I want the chocolate explosion
Uh, I’ll spare you his reply

Scott: The kids want their room redid
Me: They’re not getting their room redid.
Scott: Honey!  It’s “redone”.  Hmph.  Embarrassing.

Me (referring to dessert): It was not that big last time
Scott: That’s what she said.

None of that may be funny to you.  But it was funny to me.  I love that he makes me laugh.

I may heart a lot of things.  I love my TV and my kids and my book and all my blogs but never doubt I heart Scott so. much. more.

And I can’t end this post without saying  I can’t quit thinking about the Ruth’s Chop Salad I had.  Yum!

Kitchen

Yesterday afternoon the kitchen counter top came in.  This is it as we speak.

photo 2

Really hope Scott knows what to do with it.  Actually, he’s a genius figuring stuff like that out so honestly, I can’t wait for him to get started. Unfortunately he has to have help because one section is over 12′ long which means he probably won’t get to it until next week.  I can’t say I’m not sad about that and didn’t beg.

Bathrooms

Scott decided to go ahead and do the hall bathroom before doing the master bathroom’s trim so he could do that all at once.  So last night he cut the tile and laid it today.

photo(3)

Yes, we have a toilet in our tub.  Besides that, I think it’s looking really good.

I just called about the lighting and it’s being shipped to them tomorrow and should be here by mid week next week.

Mid-Week Random

August 5, 2009 by Amy 2 Comments

I feel the need to do a brain dump.  No fancy stuff today.

I’ve been on Internet overload since this weekend. I had all the Danny Gokey hoorah from the concert and then two of my other blogs were involved in the TCAs.  Blogging has been a lot of work the past few days to say the least. I actually turned off Twitter yesterday afternoon. I guess all of us have a limit after all.

One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time is Scott teaching the girls how to give wedgies the other night. Their little Barbie undies stretching to their shoulders and their tanned bottoms were almost too much. It was one of those times Scott and I looked at each other and belly laughed at our kids.

Scott has ripped apart the hall bath and will be laying the tile for in there today.

The kitchen counter top should be in at any time.

My bathroom lighting still hasn’t shipped.

A diamond fell out of my ring again.  I think it’s the same one as before.

Yesterday Lexi accidentally knocked my non-novel off my desk and it tore the back cover.  It gave me the courage to actually write in the book to edit it.  I’ve spent some time doing that.  It really makes a difference reading it on paper.  I don’t know why.  But it’s more clear than ever that it needs a lot of work.

Emma goes back to school in two weeks.  She seems to be ready to go back.  I don’t care to see 7am any time soon.

Scott’s new motorcycle still won’t work.  He’s gotten a new battery, replaced the gas and cleaned the spark plugs.  He has a neighbor coming to look at it tonight.   We’re still not sure whether it’s a keeper.

We visited a new church Sunday.  We all liked it.

We haven’t been swimming much because the pool had a bad case of algae.  Scott cleaned it and dumped all the chemicals in today.  Hopefully this weekend we can return to the swimming.

Bathroom Makeover Step 2 Day 4

August 3, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Scott got the toilet installed and did some caulking which you obviously can’t see but makes such a difference.

Tomorrow he’ll be sealing the grout.

After that the molding goes in.
