The Hardwoods, the hardwoods, the hardwoods are going in

May 5, 2008 by Amy 4 Comments

Yay!!  Last night we tore the carpet up.  And I loosely use the term "we".  D came by to help Scott take up the carpet and just for the record, I’m the one that got to clean up after them.  And of course I had to show pictures because hello?  It’s a makeover.

Here the first part of the carpet is coming up.

Emma and Lexi get freaked out when we tell them to be careful of nail and staples and Emma goes into "mother mode"

The carpet is up…

The plastic and red spongy stuff goes down.  You like that terminology??

And voila!  The first pieces of our hardwood go down!!

Yay!!

Spring Festival

May 4, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

So our all-day event Saturday was our spring festival.  MIL ended up keeping the kids Friday night and took them downtown about 10.  I got there about 11 since I slept in from my late night of work the night before.  This festival thing was different than our previous ones.  This one was held at a really big walking park/playground in town.  They roped off part of the field and had a main stage and then booths all around the field.  The really limited who could be there and there weren’t annoying circusy-type things to buy and the food was provided mostly by local churches or community groups.  They had a local American Idol type contest, a magician and local bands playing.  It was really cool.  We were there until almost 9pm only leaving for about 45 minutes to pick Scott up from home after he got off.  Our church was able to make a nice chunk of change to help our youth go to camp as well.  So here are some pictures from the day…

Emma got fitted for a new helmet which they GAVE them and got to ride a bike through a course.

Lexi did too!

The food! That cotton candy is almost as big as her!

We watched the hot air balloon…

Said hot air balloon….

Picture 120

The magician.  He really made a rabbit come out of a hat.  I’m still trying to figure that out!

Picture 142

Then guess who fell asleep?

Picture 115

Emma hung out with Heather while we watched the band Parallel play

Picture 096

Here’s the concert….LOL.  That is HILARIOUS because it looks like absolutely no one was listening.  But really, there were a ton of people beside us and around us.  Parallel is an AWESOME band.  We grew up with 3 of the players including the lead singer and he is a fantastic singer.

Anyway, so that was the day.  It was perfectly 80 degrees and overcast and just fun to be hanging out at a park all day.

Checking in

May 3, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

I want to write more later but just so you know I’m still here…last night I ended up staying up and working and therefore did not have to work this morning.  Four people I work with were very happy with me.  Today I spent the entire day at our spring festival.  It was a perfect day for it.  Plus, it meant I didn’t have to scrub the bathroom floor.  And that’s always good.

Later.

Weekend Plans

May 2, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

Work, work, work. Well, that’s what tonight will be like. I have a big implementation tonight. Mostly pushing a lot of little buttons and a lot more waiting. And tomorrow morning I may need to go into the office for an hour or two. I will have to take the kids since MIL is not getting them tonight, Mom and Heather are working and Scott is working. If I was really pressed, I could probably make arrangements but 4 other people are coming in and 2 are bringing their kids so they all wanted me to bring the girls.

So after that, our town is having a spring festival so I suppose I’ll take the girls there after we get back. I’m thinking since we’re upending the house for the floors there’s no point in trying to deep clean this weekend even though it needs it.

Sunday will be the norm church/CVS (probably)/church. Sunday night Scott plans to start tearing out the carpet so he can start the floors on Monday.

In other very fun news, I think our washing machine just broke. And there’s water sitting in it but nothing is being washed. Fabulous.

*Update on the washer – our water is actually turned off.  There was some water leak and they had to shut it off.  Since I couldn’t wash clothes, I went to do the dishes and the water wouldn’t come in.  I thought maybe I’d forgotten to pay the bill b/c that is the one of  few I actually have to write a check for. But no, I called and they’re working on it.  Oh darn, I can’t wash clothes and dishes…whatever shall I do??

Busy, but GREAT Day

May 1, 2008 by Amy Leave a Comment

First on my list to report is OUR FLOORS CAME IN!!  WAY earlier than we thought (although 6 weeks later than we ORIGINALLY thought).  Anyway, they’re cozy in our dining room getting acclimated to the Bennett household, or so they tell me.  Scott is working all weekend anyway so it will be Monday before the big change happens.  I am a tad disappointed in the pattern in the wood.  It’s different than the sample we had but there’s no going back now and I do like the color so it will work out.

Second, Scott’s award ceremony was very nice and he received a nice trophy/plaque thingy for his Troop award but he did not receive the state award.  But let me tell you, there were 9 other candidates from around the state and the biographies they read for each one were SO impressive.  I have no idea how the board was able to choose…the guy that won had something about being in a refugee camp growing and being paralyzed and now mentoring children so I’m guessing he may deserve it.  In all seriousness, they ALL deserved it.  Scott is bummed out.  Mainly because the guy that won it is a communications officer and doesn’t actually work on the road.  Administration positions are also considered  in the running.  But I’m still really proud.  Scott’s biography was just as impressive as the others and he should not be disappointed one bit.

Third, the party tonight was very small but fun…and very long.  I think everyone finally gave up around 9pm.  We did a makeup party and there was a video and such and it was actually kind of helpful.  I think we all learned a technique or two we didn’t know about.  For me, let’s just say concealer and bronzer are my new best friends.

Fourth and finally, it’s now 10:29 and I still have 2.5 hrs of tv to watch so here I go…
