Can you get high off of using coupons?

September 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

In the past, I have been HORRIBLE at using coupons.  I’d save them and have good intentions and all but would never use them.  Every once in awhile, I’d remember–right after the clerk was handing me my receipt.  Yesterday I stumbled upon some web sites on how to play the coupon game and save MAJOR money at the grocery store and drug store.  Well, yesterday I printed some coupons and made my first purchase where I got 84% off my purchase with two coupons.  Here’s what I did:

Johnson’s Soft Wash had a regular price of $5.99 at my Walgreens.

Printed this coupon for $4.00 off (the oil or lotion as well).

Used $1.00 coupon from Walgreens’s monthly coupon book.

End price was 99 cents.  I printed two coupons (I think that was the limit) and got two of them.  My total would have been $12.88 for body wash and my total was $2.13.  The bottom of my receipt said I save $10!

I can’t tell you how glorious that felt.  Scott was so proud and I was too.

I plan to add menu planning, coupon clipping and researching to my cycle of things I do.  I may not get down to $35 a week for groceries like some pros, but any little bit helps.

What made it out of my mind

September 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

From yesterday’s list…here’s where I am…

  • #1 of course is working my normal job which I’m doing in between typing this.  Really.  I am. — FINISHED YESTERDAY, ON TO TODAY
  • For some reason I’m getting roped into all these online grocery savings forums, ebooks, websites, etc.  And I don’t mean that in a bad way because I really need to do a better job at saving money at the grocery store but this takes time, people!  I just printed a few coupons where I’m getting things for free or pennies.  So it’s worth it, it’s just I don’t have the time!  — FINISHED READING AN EBOOK, FINISHED OUT BROWSING WEB SITES
  • Need to actually GO to the stores and buy these things.  — MADE IT TO ONE STORE AND GOT A REALLY GOOD DEAL.
  • And supposedly I’ve been assigned to be menu planning for the next week.  It’s 3:00 and I still haven’t eaten a proper lunch for today much less knowing what we’ll have next Tuesday for dinner.  –MADE A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR THE NEXT WEEK.
  • Also need to run to the pharmacy to get Emma’s refill.  –DONE
  • Trying to get all the chord/lead sheets together for that new U2 song.  Listening to it in the meantime trying to learn it.  –EMAILED S ABOUT IT, SUPPOSEDLY WE ALREADY HAVE WHAT WE NEED.  WHEW.
  • eBay has free listings through the weekend.  I took a bunch of pictures of the girls clothing and really want to get them listed.  So far, not getting far. –POSTED CLOTHES ON WORK’S BULLETIN BOARD AND SOLD TWO SETS.  YAY.  HAVEN’T LISTED IT ON EBAY YET
  • Still need to get the podcast out from last week for the youth group.  –SCHEDULED A YOUTH MEMBER TO COME TODAY AT LUNCH TO WORK ON THIS
  • Oh, and trying to catch up on a few premieres on iTunes that I’ve missed apparently. –WATCHED BACK AT YOU YESTERDAY, HAVE TO WATCH GOSSIP GIRL TODAY
  • Not to mention any of the laundry/dishes I need to do around here. –DID ONE LOAD OF SHEETS.  DISHES STILL NEED DONE.

Thankful Thursday

September 27, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I can’t seem to pass up doing this one as I have so much to be thankful for.

  • I’m thankful for good friends. I was reminded again on Tuesday night at that lovely 3. hour. Pampered Chef part at D’s house how much I love that girl.
  • I’m thankful for God’s provision once again as my FIL had successful surgery on Tuesday morning on his knee.
  • I’m thankful for God’s providence and peace in a situation like this.  I’ve been praying all week for them and it just breaks my heart.  The baby had the same condition J&J’s baby did last year.  They are clinging like crazy to God and I’m just glad they have Him for that.
  • As much as I complained this week, I AM thankful for what a wonderful job I have.  I get paid well, stay at home with my kids, work part-time and have great benefits.  Can’t ask for more really.
  • I’m thankful for other Christians who have the same goal as me–to actually follow Christ.  From a pastor who shared from his heart to a youth member willing to take care of the little things to one willing to share secrets on saving money at the grocery store.

It always seems like I could keep going on and I love the reminder how blessed I am!

More Season Premieres

September 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

I was at band practice and a lovely 3. hour. Pampered Chef show so I didn’t get to see anything live tonight.  Here’s what I did watch..

Dancing with the Stars – I watched the performances online and didn’t see the judges’ comments.  But the only ones I made it through the entire performance and thought were decent were Albert Reed and the Castroneves guy.  The worst was Wayne Newton.

House – *spoiler* I love that guy.  Great season opener even though it seemed like a really small cast.  There were several moments that were particularly funny but since I didn’t write them down, I don’t remember them.  I do have to say at the end when they realize it’s not the right girl, it hit you right in the gut.  Didn’t see that coming at all.  Great, new twist to the story.  And House NEEDS a team.  I’m sort of hoping they don’t try to replace each character but have some new chemistry going on.

That’s all I got to see tonight.  Tomorrow is the Patricia Heaton/Kelsey Grammer one and then Private Practice.  Oh, and Gossip Girl.  Whew.

You want me to sing what?

September 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So my neighbor/lead guitarist in our worship band at church gets in my car on the way to practice and says, "We need to have a band meeting."  Apparently, he got pretty frustrated last week between band practice being as insane and disorganized as it was and not being able to hear himself play on Wednesday night and really frustrated with the other guitarist I’ve been mentioning as being, uh, high maintenance.

So me being the adult, I had to sit everyone down and lead a meeting.  We made it clear that I was the lead singer and we’d be singing songs in my key as much as possible.  And that our rhythm guitarist would concentrate on his guitar stuff and provide vocals whenever possible but his first priority should be to play.

Also, we talked about direction.  Which songs we should learn and such.  I gave them a great pep talk about this band is only as good as the work they put into it.  And I was just along for the ride and I’d help organize and sing when none of the youth members showed.   And somehow in all that I agreed to learn U2’s "40".  It’s a song that is written from Psalm 40.  And I’m cool with the song but they want me to sing the same song Bono sang?  Oh my, I’m really way out of my league here.  And seeing we have yet to have one youth member attend a band practice, I’m guessing it’s pretty much up to me.

But they were excited about it.  Apparently S kept saying they’d learn it but he left before they had a chance.

I do have to say band practice went amazingly smooth.  We even got out 30 minutes early.  We got through all 4 songs and even some of them a few times.  And that’s even after having the meeting.  It’s amazing what a little communication will do for you.

So, I just found that the "40" mp3 in a stash of music S gave me at one time and I suppose that’s what I’ll be listening to for the next week.  Here’s hoping I don’t make a complete fool out of myself (well, that’s maybe a given) and rip a U2 song to shreds.

Windows Live Writer

September 25, 2007 by Amy Leave a Comment

So lately I’ve been doing a lot of blog, well, stuff.  If you’ve clicked on to my site from your reader anytime recently, you’ve seen I’ve made a lot of changes..added Google Adsense, AdBrite advertising, BlogHer, Twitter, BlogRush.  Which, by the way, I’m probably going to be removing some of the advertising because it is SO not worth my blog space to advertise and get pennies.

And now here I am typing this from Windows Live Writer.  Yes, give me grief, I’m sure I’m the last one.  How I manage to be a professional techie and yet ride the coats of most people, I have no clue.

My opinion so far is it’s a keeper.  A lot less clicking to write a post.  And yet, I miss my dashboard a little to see my latest comments and stats.  I’m sure I need to root around some more to see all it has to offer.

Any tips anyone?
