Goodbye, Saturday

October 17, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Today feels like one of the longest days I’ve had in a long time.  Nothing dramatic or shocking happened.  It was just a long. day.  The girls and I spent the night at Mom’s house last night so we wouldn’t have to get up extra early for the yard sale and the kids would be able to sleep if they so chose, which they did not so choose.  Anyway, we woke up, opened the garage door and saw that it was pouring rain.  A little panic set in but my immediate reaction was…let’s go to Starbucks.  So Emma went with me and we picked up some breakfast.  By the time I got back the rain was letting up, we started setting up and the yard sale was off!  A full 7 hours and many rain showers later, we pushed everything back into the garage and decided to do it again next weekend.  Not because it didn’t go well, because it did.  It’s just we had that much stuff.

This afternoon we ran up to Babies R Us to help Jake and Jill register for stuff for THEIR BABY.  I don’t think I’ve mentioned on here yet that they’re adopting and expecting on Christmas Eve!!  As to be expected with any expecting parent, they were a bit lost in a sea of baby products.  I went to give them a helping hand, but they were doing just fine…just like I know they will soon too.

When I got home I was just exhausted.  Scott was already back at work and I sat down with the girls on the couch.  No TV, no music, no books, no toys.  Just sat there.  Of course Emma says, This is boring!  We couldn’t agree on what to do for dinner.  Normally I just tell them but I didn’t even have the energy to decide on that.  Somehow we all agreed on Steak ‘n Shake.  I guess the promise of milkshakes will make anyone agree.

That seemed to pump some energy in us and we spent the evening straightening up, painting, reading and just hanging out at home.  Once the kids were in bed this evening, I finished up some laundry and then ran myself a bath.  You know it’s bad if I take a bath.

So yeah, the clock has just struck Sunday and I signed up for a 15 minute prayer session for our campaign at church tomorrow at midnight…so Saturday will be gone for me in 15 minutes and a mighty long one it was.

Say Cheese – The Results

I realized I never posted some of the pictures from this.  There were more but these were my favorites.

This is one of the last ones he took.  I’m standing behind the bar.

This was the shot where it got a little awkward because he kept inching us closer.

Friday Random

October 16, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

  • We’re having a yard sale at my Mom’s tomorrow.  I spent the long weekend last weekend pulling everything out and pricing it.  So proud of myself for not waiting until the last minute.  The kids think it’s the best thing since sliced bread.  Emma helped me tag almost everything.  Lexi just wants to handle the money.
  • Lexi has been sick all week and never made it to school.
  • I think she’s given it to me.  Or something is going on in my throat this morning.  No fever yet thank goodness.
  • Vampire Diaries just keeps getting better.  Really didn’t expect to like it so much.
  • The Office was a major letdown after last week.  I couldn’t even finish it.
  • I’ve officially entered into the world of Podcasts.  Kaitlin and I are getting ready to publish our 3rd episode for our Friday Night Lights blog.  By the way, are you caught up yet??  You still have 10 days to watch 3 seasons!
  • I got 3 new pairs of jeans this week (on sale!).  I love jeans.
  • ONE WEEK until my return to Twitter and Facebook.  I can’t say I haven’t missed it and won’t enjoy the return.  I can’t say I want it back exactly like it was either.

A Daddy’s Kiss

October 14, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

I really don’t want to spoil the girls’ Halloween costumes.  I mean, that is a standard yearly blog post and I really don’t want to ruin your intense anticipation but last night the girls tried them on.   They were in girly, princess heaven.  I have a whole “roll” of pictures of them with those big, REAL smiles.  They curtsied and laughed and primped and danced and posed.  It was so much fun to watch that I grabbed my camera to capture it.  Scott was working and ended up stopping by the house and they were so excited to show him their outfits.  Scott leaned down to give Lexi a kiss and I caught a picture of Lexi savoring it just as he was leaning up.

Priceless.

Lexi-ism

October 13, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

Really sorry if you guys don’t find these amusing but this as close to a baby book that my children will get and Scott and I find them wildly entertaining and can’t wait to read them in years to come.

Scott was aggravating Lexi.

Lexi: Stop!

He didn’t.

Lexi: I’m warning you!

Scott: What are you going to do?

Lexi: Wedgie!  Bad news!

Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle Review

October 13, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

http://www.theopinionatedparent.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/meetingmrwrong_front_big1.jpg

Reading Stephanie Snowe’s book Meeting Mr. Wrong: The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle has been on my to-do list since it came out.  I started following her on her blog several months before it came out and I knew I’d enjoy it.  And enjoy it I did.  I finished it in two nights.  And I laughed out loud on more occasions than I can count.  And not just a “heh” but a lay-on-your-bed-and-kick-your-heels-into-the-mattress-type of laugh.  In some cases, it was a drop-your-jaw-cover-your-mouth kind of shock of her “misadventures” which I think should have been more aptly named Dating Disasters.  I had no clue people act like that.

The book initially reads like a collection of short stories, each chapter providing a misadventure of its own.  Towards the end of the book it begins widening the angle and you see what else was going on in her life at the time.  Neither misadventure nor disaster seems to cover THAT part.  The book ultimately culminates to the email where she meets her future husband.  My understanding is the next book is more about their relationship.  But this book?  Oh my word at the funny.  You don’t have to know Stephanie or her blog to enjoy this book.  If you’d like a good laugh and probably a little more appreciation for your dating or married life, definitely check it out.

You can read the first few chapters here.  And when you realize how funny it is, I’ll do you a favor and give you the link to Amazon.  I would give away my copy but I intend to shove it in the hands of those around me 🙂

Disclaimer: I was neither paid nor asked to write this review.  I just really enjoyed it!  But yes, the link is an affiliate link 🙂

Hello, Pattern!

October 12, 2009 by Amy 4 Comments

I love when people are brave enough to mix pattern and have an eclectic style of dress.  I was always the wear-purple-socks-with-a-purple-shirt kind of girl.  And still, to this day about as adventurous I get is wearing red shoes with a zebra print skirt.

So when Lexi came out wearing this outfit this morning?  It just made me smile.  She’s 4.  She may not want to do that when she’s 12 and she’ll probably pick out one of her black pair of shoes with an outfit like that at 31.  But for now?  Hello, Pattern!

  • I’ve seen this up and down the Internet, but I love these Family Rules.
  • This was a great reminder to pray for my children’s future spouses.  And yes, that sounds funny.
  • I love, love, loved this story of a family that Said Yes to something crazy.
  • Back in my post about Crazy Love I mentioned a video I had watched and couldn’t remember the name.  Well, here it is.
  • For some reason it made  me a little sad to see Geocities go.  I don’t know if I ever had a site there but I do remember when every single personal site was hosted there.
  • I really love these Pumpkin Families.  Let’s see if I can get it together and do one this year.  The girls would love them!
  • Megan Joy recently sang in Salt Lake.  People, including me at times, gave her a hard time during Idol this year but I really do enjoy her voice sometimes.
