The Office Wedding

October 8, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

*spoiler*

It is times like these when I miss Twitter the most.

That episode of The Office was pure T gold.  One of the best episodes EVER.

Dwight’s 9 3/4″ line.

Kevin’s I got 6 numbers, I just need one more.

Kevin’s I’d be proud to be your boyfriend.

Or Jim’s I was waiting on my wife.

And I know that doesn’t even scratch the surface.

But the moment I figured out that they were going to do this for the wedding march, you would have thought it was the Super Bowl and my team had won.  It was like my Internet world, TV world and romantic world all collided into one of the best TV moments ever.

I cried the rest of the episode.

Seriously.

And I realize that’s probably all kinds of sad but to quote Kevin, it was EPIC.

Lexi-ism

October 8, 2009 by Amy 1 Comment

This is another infomercial-related story was relayed to me by Heather. After she quit laughing.

Yesterday Emma and Lexi went to my Mom’s shop where Heather works as well. Lexi is eating ice cream at Heather’s desk and drops it down her shirt and pants and then on the floor. She tells Heather:

“You need to get that stuff that will deep clean the carpet. It really works!”

Renovation Progress 10/7 – The Mirrors

OMG.

The mirrors are in.

It’s kind of crazy how much light the mirrors reflect.

And it’s kind of crazy just how many reflections of the bathroom you see.

Again, you can check out the post that shows what we started with.

Wow.  It’s just about all I can say.

Renovation Progress 10/7

October 7, 2009 by Amy Leave a Comment

I haven’t done one of these in a while because we haven’t DONE anything in a while. Let’s just say that the Fencing Direct will stop a renovation faster than well, something very clever that I can’t think of right now.

One very important part of the renovation are my bathroom mirrors. You may remember that I wasn’t going to do them and then I got them for free from a friend? I barely remember that because guess how long it’s been?

2009-10-07_1031

10 weeks. Isn’t that a bit excessive? And it’s not because we didn’t do our part. The first company lost our work order and almost our mirrors and then BROKE two of the mirrors. Thank goodness they agreed to replace them but did NOT agree to put the holes in them.

We finally got them back and found another local glass company. Then they BROKE the 3rd piece. They did NOT agree to replace it although we knew that up front.

In the end, we’re still only paying for one piece of mirror and the 6 holes required and finally today we get to pick them up.

Here are some before pictures.

And in case you were wondering, all these 10 weeks?  I’ve been doing my hair and makeup on my knees so I could see into a mirror from our bedroom that we hung “temporarily”. And yes, there has been blue tape that is covering gaping holes in my walls and mismatched paint viewable this whole time.

If I wasn’t excited before about these mirrors, trust me, I’m ecstatic now.  Check back later for hopefully-I’m-praying-please-God-let-the-mirrors-fit-and-not-break after pictures.

Life Interrupted

October 7, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

That’s the way I feel about today.  Because over the past week we lost a little of our normalcy.

I think I mentioned Emma was sick through the weekend.  No, she doesn’t have swine flu.  Just some type of infection that gave her pink eye and an ear infection.  Monday morning we decided she still didn’t need to go although the dr had ok’d her to go.  Tuesday she seemed ok but by 1 the school nurse called and said her fever was 102.5 and we needed to come get her.  She doesn’t seem to have any new symptoms, I just think her body is still fighting off this infection.  The nurse suggested we keep her out for the full week.  Alrighty then.

Lexi is out of preschool today for a teacher workday.

Scott is off work for holiday leave today.

The cleaning ladies are here today.

I was supposed to go into work today but I decided to stay home.

So nothing feels normal, on-schedule around here today.

But all of us home and someone cleaning my house? Life can get interrupted anytime.

My New Desktop. And not the PC variety.

October 6, 2009 by Amy 3 Comments

You may remember Scott’s dire need to change my office around late one night, leaving me with a piece of plywood on two sawhorses to work on.  Now, I’m all for retro and I don’t need anything fancy.  But I do sit at this desk for 6-8 hours every day and getting splinters simply for moving my arm on my desk is not…desirable.  I’ve had my eye on this printed glass top since I first laid eyes on it at IKEA.

Last night we finally bit the bullet and bought it.

One thing I love about IKEA is the ability to get exactly what you want by mix and match.  One stand is able to hold my computer and hide the wires and even includes a shelf to store some papers. The other is ironically like a saw horse.  The best part is this set was only $135 which is more than fair by any standard for this size desk.  I mean, this desk is comparable in price and function but not nearly in style!

I love it.  You can’t see it in any pictures, but there are ladybugs and birds and butterflies among the flowers and leaves and it’s just so ME.  And I just thought of how cute it would be to paint that piece of plywood and lay the glass on top of it!  I might actually attempt to keep my desk clean!

Maybe.

Putting Together My “Crazy Love” Puzzle

October 5, 2009 by Amy 5 Comments

I keep recommending Crazy Love by Francis Chan and I do recommend the book.  But I think there’s a bigger picture brewing that has me so excited about it.  I could start the story when I stood inside a Books a Million and spotted it on the shelves among other recommended books but I think I’ll start a few years back.

This is a long one but a good one…

  • I know I said it before, but I highly recommend Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  My relationship with this book has a story on its own.  I plan to tell it soon.

  • And now that I’ve mentioned Francis Chan,  he’ll be speaking at Verge Conference in Austin, Texas in February .  And oh, did you know that’s where Friday Night Lights is filmed?  I feel a road trip brewing.

  • Allison Iraheta debuted her single today.  I think it’s so perfect for her.  Unfortunately I don’t like Kris Allen’s enough to buy it :(  It’s just too much of the same thing.  Sorry, Kris!

  • I watched the only existing video of Anne Frank several times.  I just love seeing the old film footage knowing that was actual life, not a movie.  I would love to see more of that.

  • I loved this post and the idea of a family tree.

  • I fully intend to try this crockpot lasagna, this hummus recipe and this granola bar recipe.

  • I really love this idea of making your master bedroom more like a B&B.

  • I’ve been using some new software.  First, Jing is great for screencaps. Audio Hijack has been awesome for recording Skype conversations on my Mac among other input sources, Switch has been a great audio file converter (they have some other great software too).  I also hear Audacity is great for both Mac and Windows as an alternate but I haven’t tried it yet.

  • I’m very much enjoying the Scrabble app on my iPhone to pass time instead of Twitter.

  • And lastly, lets end with some Dilbert gold.  I cracked up laughing when reading it at my ILs yesterday, Heather called me yesterday just to see if I’d seen it and now I’m seeing Mashable has highlighted it.
